Louis Leger, mediator of the Czech-French cultural relationships

Abstract: Louis Leger, french Slavophile, Slavicist and promoter of Czech issues in France in the second half of the 19th century, led correspondence with leading figures of the French nation as well as with the personalities of the Slavic word. Leger's correspondence with the Czech national elite is evidence of his interest in the Czech issue. Correspondence written in Czech and French is stored in the Literary Archive of the Museum of Czech Literature in Prague. The aim of this thesis is to discuss the Leger's written correspondence and present its contents to readers with regard to the historical context.
Stories of Neruda's love affairs in awareness of school and public

The main focus of this disertation are relationships of Jan Neruda. They are explained from two different points of view: historical and didactic. The historical part is about the facts, for which the evidence can be found. Those that don't have any evidence in the historical sources are separated. In this part there were also discussed some novels, which portray Jan Neruda. The didactic part contains of the analysis of the textbooks, there was studied, how the information about Neruda's relationships were explained to the students. The last chapter is about websites, where the information about this topic can be found. This topic was there also assessed from the historical and didactic point of view.
The everyday life of publicly active women in second half of 19th century

The goal of the master thesis is to introduce a woman living in the second half of nineteenth century in her private sphere of influence. It deals with the everyday life of the female half of population belonging to the bourgeoisie and with the rhythm controlling her life. In particular chapters there are concluded parts of female world limited by their household. The thesis describes ordinary actions which made part of female's life, the most important are housekeeping and raising children. The attention is also focused on female's health and body care and on the methods of mental hygiene, especially ways of relaxing and spending free time. An ordinary life of female member of bourgeoisie in the second half of nineteenth century is reconstructed thanks to the primary sources, particularly the diaries and the private correspondence. The thesis is based on the research of the estates of many publicly active Czech women lay-by in the Literary Archive of the Museum of Czech Literature or published as the edition. Images of femininity and masculinity in Ještěd Novels of Karolína Světlá

The subject of this thesis (Images of femininity and masculinity in Ještěd novels by Karolína Světlá) is a gender analysis of selected prose of Karolína Světlá, focused specifically on the works such as Vesnický román, Kříž u potoka, Frantina, Kantůrčice and Nemodlenec. The theoretical part presents basic principles, approaches and methods of the feminist literary theory including concepts focused on analyses of power and domination out of which I mostly use the work by Pierre Bourdieu. The theoretical part also contains positioning the writer's work within the literary-historical context and introducing source texts. The core of the thesis is a gender analysis based on my interpretation of texts and the method of resistant reading that concentrates on specific gender aspects in the entire series of works - the subject of my interest is creating masculinity and femininity (including gender attributes and roles or myths and archetypes), narration of the story from a gender perspective, forms of motherhood and fatherhood, topics of power, violence and sexuality. Attention is also paid to the motives of a victim or romantic love. Prague motives in the work of Karolina Světlá and Jan Neruda

This thesis focuses on the work of two Prague natives: Karolina Světlá and Jan Neruda and their conception of image of the Prague. The thesis target is to find out, which role prague motives play in the work of both writers due to a fact, that both writers were born in Prague. At Jan Neruda we concentrate on his feuilletons, at Karolina Světlá we focus on her autobiographical work except two of them. First part of thesis focuses on the life and fate of both writers and their entering in the literature. Second part is concentrated on the analysis of their representative works.The target of these analysis is to find, which role Prague plays in particular works. In the final part we try to compare the interpretation of Prague motives of both writers. We try to find the diferrences and identical features as well. Karolina Světlá approaches Prague history, with all its forgotten tales. On the other hand Neruda's Prague is current and alive. Also the diference of both conceptions lies in the themes. Světlá has a aims toward romanticism and nobility, Neruda is consistently realistic and he embraces the stress of everydayness. Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org)

Reading experiences of Czech authoress Karolina Světlá

The aimof this thesis is a research of reading experiences of Karolina Světlá (1830- 1899), one of the significant Czech authoress and representative of women´s emancipation in the second half of the 19. century. One of the main sources for this research are published editions of personal correspondence and memoirs, where wecan find particular references to home and foreign-language literature and affirmative or negative appreciation single works or writers, which she knows from her reading, follow up the changes of them and focus on the parts talking about a function of reading in the girl´s education and proper literature for women. Another important source is a personal archival file of this authoress, which is stored in the museum in Český Dub in northern Bohemia. Here we can discover, except 366 books from possession of Karolina Světlá and her husband, some personal hand-writing documents, which are illustrating her reading preferences (extracts from some books or bills from different bookstores). This thesis would like to create a reading biography of followed authoress, show the atmosphere and Czech literary world in the second half of the 19. century from the alternative point of view and reveal the way of thinking and ideas of important person with many cultural and social activities.
